Why technological advancement matters?

Writing to you from Italy.  Being a country with a developed economy and technologies, Italy has several internet providers and mobile operators. One of them, Iliad, offers a great deal: unlimited calls/SMS + 150 GB 5G internet for only 10 euros.  I am here to visit my PhD coordinator. Since all lectures and seminars at the University of Pisa (UNIPI) are online at the moment, I had no other way to attend them rather than doing so via PC or my phone. I purchased Iliad's sim card and got extreme speed connectivity across my whole travel.  PhD department at UNIPI informed all students about the "code of good behavior" every student should stick to. A lecturer has a right to mark any student as ''absent" in case he/she is not using a webcam during eh class. Therefore, all students should constantly be visible to the professor.  The 5G speed is so insane here, so I am participating in discussions and "streaming my face" to the classroom in HD quality. Me...

Connectivism: a new reality or dogma of modern pedagogy

Image
While studying PGCERT (Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning), I have covered many popular teaching and learning theories such as behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. However, I have not heard about Connectivism till the recent time when I joined the LTEP module (part of MALT course) as a student.  This post will include the author's review and comments on the article written by George Siemens.  The article  describes the theory of Connectivism. This theory began actively discussed in the blogs in 2005, leading to an expansion of the discourse around the term "connectivism" as a new theory of learning. Moreover, there were two reasons indicating the need for a new theory:  * The first one is the need to replace old theories that no longer correspond to modern trends and realities.  * The second is the need to combine old theories without discarding them since "old" theories individually can no longer be a good explanation for many things goi...

The essence of choosing the right platfom for your teaching process

Image
This post will be dedicated to my experience of using two different types of platforms for course development. While reading, you will find my personal overview of each instrument as well as suggestions concerning how to unleash its potential.  Before starting my review, I should highlight that both platforms pursue the principles of the Connctivism learning theory illustrated in the article of George Siemens (Siemens, 2005). I will review this article in detail in my next post.  I will start with the most common one: Google Classroom. I got introduced to this platform around a year ago as I was seeking for the "available for free" software while developing the private course for my private teaching classes. One of my colleagues, who had a great experience in teaching suggested me to check with Google Classroom. In the beginning, I went quite skeptical not being sure it will provide me with the needed flexibility.  You may find the link to my course below: Business Resour...

Mentimeter tool for online teaching and learning for academics

Image
Today I would like to share one of the interesting tools for interactive online teaching. I figured out this instrument once I had an online PhD class at the Financial University under the Government of Russia.  During the class, the lecturer suggests students to join the Mentimeter either by scanning the QR code or clicking on the link provided and entering the class ID. Lecturer can use the Mentimeter app in various ways, including immediate vote poll, or "building" a word tree live since students are entering words/phrases and it appears on the joint screen.  Mentimeter is the ultimate way to make your presentations more engaging, no matter if it is a hybrid, live or remote session. Run live polls, and quizzes, and ask your audience any questions you have. For educators and business people alike, this is a great multi-use tool as colorful and dynamic responses appear in real-time. All audience members need is a smartphone to vote Zoom and Microsoft Team integrations make f...
