Mentimeter tool for online teaching and learning for academics
Today I would like to share one of the interesting tools for interactive online teaching. I figured out this instrument once I had an online PhD class at the Financial University under the Government of Russia.
During the class, the lecturer suggests students to join the Mentimeter either by scanning the QR code or clicking on the link provided and entering the class ID. Lecturer can use the Mentimeter app in various ways, including immediate vote poll, or "building" a word tree live since students are entering words/phrases and it appears on the joint screen.
Mentimeter is the ultimate way to make your presentations more engaging, no matter if it is a hybrid, live or remote session. Run live polls, and quizzes, and ask your audience any questions you have. For educators and business people alike, this is a great multi-use tool as colorful and dynamic responses appear in real-time. All audience members need is a smartphone to vote Zoom and Microsoft Team integrations make for seamless remote presentations (Mentimeter Pricing, Alternatives & More 2022 - Capterra, no date).
I personally find the tool very useful to make interactive online classes while having a class delivered over Zoom, BBB, MS Teams, or VK Teams. Please, keep in mind that this is a supplementary tool, not the main one. I should admit that despite being not-free instrument comparing to Kahoot!, Mentimeter provides a better variety of surveying options making sessions interactive.
Pros: Interactive and fresh with a good graphical design.
Cons: Requires paid subscription by academic or the university. The free version allows you to use a few slides only. Tariffs vary, but the longer the cheaper.
Have you been using this tool? I am preparing a presentation of the tool to my fellow colleagues at WIUT later in March. Will be happy to see you all there :)
